“Celebration”: a joyful occasion for special festivities to mark some happy event. This is according to Oxford dictionary.
2010 marks the birth of a new decade.
So with this in mind, the 2010 AABC National Bonsai Convention A Bonsai Celebration is destined to be a fresh, exciting & joyous event. With world famous, Italian Bonsai Master, Salvatore Liporace sharing his wealth of experience with us and a few home grown artists as well, entertainment & great bonsai is high on the list. Meet up with old friends and make some new ones, this is what Bonsai is really about and a Birthday Party to boot, as host club Illawarra Bonsai Society, is turning 40 and has gone to great length to make this convention as enjoyable as ever. With a surprise guest speaker, a great venue and even a Birthday cake. In short, you will be talking about this event for a very long time to come.
Salvatore Liporace is a world renowned international bonsai artist. He is the founder of the Studio Botanica in Milan, and many of his former pupils who are now international bonsai artists in their own right. His awards and achievements are extensive, having won many prizes such as the Gingko Award, and demonstrated at conventions around the globe. His artistic styling and teaching is not to be missed, either at the demonstrations or the Monday workshops.
Alongside Salvatore at the convention will be Grant Bowie. He started bonsai as a 13 year old, and since 1975 he has been a bonsai demonstrator and workshop tutor. He is an icon of bonsai in Australia, and is currently the Curator of the National Bonsai and Penjing Collection of Australia in Canberra. Grant will perform demonstrations on both days of the convention as well conducting Monday workshops.
In addition, demonstrations will be conducted by three Illawarra Bonsai Society Inc members, Jamie Milner, Janet Selby and Brian Wasson, as well as the mysterious duo, The Italian Stallions. The Italian Stallions are sure to be entertaining and a little mischievous.
A welcome cocktail party is available on Friday to open the conference weekend, and will be a dinner on Saturday night that will surely be a highlight of the convention. At the dinner you will be able to join in on the celebrations of the 40th birthday of Illawarra Bonsai Society Inc. A special celebrity guest will speak at the dinner and there will be birthday cake for everyone.
All conference delegates will have access to a premier display of bonsai from the members of Illawarra Bonsai Society Inc and suiseki by Suiseki Australia. Alongside the display area will be sales tables from commercial vendors, supplying all your bonsai needs.
The setting of the 23rd National Bonsai Convention is the Bankstown Sports Club in Bankstown, Sydney. The Club is conveniently located within Sydney, and has excellent transport links to all areas of the city, as well as Sydney Airport. The Club has excellent conference facilities as well as entertainment, and fine dining in one of the five eateries. For anyone seeking accommodation, the Club has direct access to the 108 room Bankstown Travelodge.
