Salvatore Liporace

Picture of Salvatore LiporaceA professional Bonsai artist, in 1986 he established the Studio Botanico in Milan, the first space fully devoted to the teaching of Bonsai. Thanks to his many stays at Master Masahiko Kimura’s in Japan, his school became a reference centre for expert bonsai artists from all over the world and it was the first to be officially acknowledged by the Italian Bonsai Union (UBI).

Many of his former pupils are now well known teachers in Italy and abroad and several members of his school have participated in the European Bonsai Association (EBA) European New Talent Contest. He was the first European to establish Bonsai schools abroad: in France, Spain, Italy, Portugal, Germany, Puerto Rico, Poland, USA and Brazil. As an outstanding professional artist, he is invited by the most famous world associations to participate in seminars and demonstrations. Salvatore has taken part in international congresses, where his personal interpretation of Bonsai art makes him one of the most innovative professional artists. His articles are published by the most important European and American magazines.

During his long career, he has carried out demonstrations, held seminars and made reports in all five continents.

Salvatore is a founding member and councilor of the Italian National Association of Bonsai and Suiseki Instructors (IBS), and he has also been the president of the teaching committee of the Bonsai and Suiseki National College.

In 1998 he received an acknowledgment from the French Bonsai Federation for his contributions to raising the bonsai artistic level of the French Nation.

In 1999 he was granted the prestigious American prize “BCI Writers and Photographers Award” because of his important contribution to the teaching and spreading of the Bonsai art among the international community. In May 2005 he was EBA congress winner of the prize, “Best Demonstrator” in Europe.

He has won the first prize at competitions of the UBI, the EBA, and in 2007 was winner of the Ginko Bonsai Award. And was 2008 winner of the prize from SAR Princess Caroline d’Hannover of Monaco, as the best European artist.

In June 2001 he represented Italy as a headliner demonstrator at the World Congress held in Munich, Bavaria. During that important event he officially introduced his first book “Bonsai Spirit and Substance”, which has been published in five languages in a limited edition. In July 2009 he will the headline demonstrator at the World Congress to be held in San Juan, Puerto Rico. www.liporace.it
