Shinji Suzuki (Japan)

Mr Shinji Suzuki is a worldwide known bonsai professional. He is the owner of the Taikan Bonsai Museum in Obuse. This garden has become one of the most prestigious places to visit in the bonsai world.

Mr Suzuki san started studying bonsai immediately after graduating from high school at the age of 18. For five years, he was an apprentice under Mr Motosuke Hamano, the owner of Toujyu-en bonsai nursery in Omiya. After an extra year of free labour, he completed his apprenticeship at Toujyu-en.

At the age of only 33 years, he received the Prime Minister Award at Nihon Bonsai Sakufu Ten. At that time, he was the youngest bonsai artist to receive this prestigious award. He has given demonstrations, workshops and lectures in Japan, and internationally. He was the main demonstrator at the 8th World bonsai Convention in Saitama in 2017. Mr Suzuki is promoting bonsai by his activities in several organisations. He is a director of Nippon Bonsai Association, Nippon Bonsai Growers Cooperative and a few others. Also, he is organisation chairman of Nihon Bonsai Taikan ten exhibition.
